Cowboy Chic Western Birthday Party

An old fashioned birthday party for 40 something 12 year olds at a farm in the country is where this party will take place…someday. The original date was rained out and will take place after the whirlwind of activities that go on during the last weeks of school.

Pink and brown, paisley and polka dots, games and goofiness are all planned.

The Trinity Buffalo Golf Classic

I’m on the committee for our son’s school fundraiser golf tournament and volunteered to come up with new logos, brochures, posters, yard signs, etc. Golf Logo blue Buffalo Blast SignBrochure Final Brochure Final 2

The pre-party was a big deal on a little budget. The argyles used in the logo was incorporated into the design. Large, inflatable golf clubs are mounted on top of huge tees and appear as they have just been hit towards the pin…the centerpiece of the food table in the middle of the room.

We had a blast running the “Buffalo Races”…the school’s teachers actually held the buffalos and waited for the dice to be thrown. FUN!

‘Twas the Night Before Easter and all through the Yard, the Ribs were a Smokin’ and Johnny’s Sweating Hard!

My husband is having a blatant affair right under my nose…and in our own backyard! Her name is Hasty-Bake and she’s a black eyed beauty and built like a tank. He is obsessed with her and spends hours with her every weekend right after his golf game. He never comes right home from the golf course for me! And now he has my brother Greg thinking that he wants to get this little mistress all to himself back home in Atlanta. Men and their girls…whoops-grills.

The guy above in the ambiguously happy dot shorts caresses each rack of sweet, tender baby back ribs and calls them “baby” and “sweet little thangs” and gets me all flustered…he’s talking to a dead pig…not his loving wife! And he’s teaching my baby brother all he knows about the art of seducing a well seasoned Hasty-Bake grill.

John bought the grill at an auction and the very next day consulted with our friend, a big time Hasty-Baker, on how to get started. Every weekend has been a treat as he has prepared succulent ribs, tenderloins, flank steak, etc. for all of us to enjoy. My brother and sister-in-law came to visit for Easter and we just hung out on the deck on beautiful spring afternoons sipping homemade margaritas and catching up while the kids played in the yard. It was a relaxing weekend.

The kids were on the local news that day while visiting the park.

Dec20090002 At long last…we enjoy the fruits of their labors. Thanks fellows! (And, no. We do not usually let our nephew dine on ribs and sub-machine guns!)

Waaaiit! Easter is NEXT weekend???

Things have been pretty busy around here for the last 3 months. I have obviously lost all track of time… John and I were talking about how busy our April is shaping up. First we start with Easter and your brother and sister-in law coming to town next weekend and then…WAIT, what? It’s not in two weeks but next week?

After I blew out the light from yanking the chain too hard, I fumbled in frustration in the creepy dark attic for the Easter box of decorations and hauled it down and got to work.

I’ve had this hand painted ceramic bunny for as long as I can remember…my Mom dated the egg with 1965. The ceramic eggs were made by Texas ceramist Jenna Hawkins. Below, my wonderful iron French waiter serves up a platter of jelly beans.

Here’s the secret not this look…I placed a smaller clear vase upside down in the largest one filled the vase up with malted milk eggs…they were only going to fit if I pushed the smaller vase close to the side of the big one. I sat another smaller clear vase on top of the upside down one and put the tulips in, put a few more malted milk eggs in and hot glued the Peeps around the rim.

I love using cloches and my petite Herend bunny and Limoges egg fit perfectly in this small one.
