Craft Camp Day 3: Saving the Mess (Best) for Last!

Today was the last day of craft camp for the summer and I saved the messiest project for last.  Crazy or what?  There is a soft fuzzy blanket of pink and green burlap shred all over the kitchen and it even found it's way onto my computer screen!  Oh well...it was worth it to watch these great young ladies use all kinds of skills today!  Did I mention that I had 10 girls here at one time?  We spread ourselves to every corner of space!

They learned to trace and cut patterns...

They learned to mix solutions by blending...
submerging fabrics and spreading them to dry.
They learned to iron...even the tiniest ironed their own!
to create these beautiful huge poppies to hang on their walls!

We also learned to count measurements and cut lengths of yarn to make tassles.
 Kinda went tassle crazy...

but it's all a part of the fun!
Sure am gonna miss all of the summer kids...they have taught me so much
this summer.  They learned that you don't have to be artistic to be crafty...you just have to try and be amazed at what you can create!

Crafting With My Cuties!

I just finished a craft class for 2 days with these four young lovelies I have known since they were tiny.  They asked to make things for their bedrooms that they would hang on their walls, so here's what we came up with...
They really wanted to do something with scripture and I suggested starting with a abstract base and adding the scripture over it.  They did a great job!

Below are the completed jewelry organizers...

and their wonderful plastic bowls...so pretty.

Craft Camp 'Girls Only"...all that glitters is PLASTIC!

I forgot to post the morning group with their jewelry organizers...they turned out so well and today we worked very hard on filling them up!   Today was plastic craft day...
we worked with lots of beads and designed bowls.
It was a lot of fun and kind of warm with the ovens on all day!
But it was worth it in the end...
because their bowls turned out so well!
Aren't they gorgeous?  The group above was the morning class.
Then I pulled out one of my three all time favorite childhood crafts...Shrinky Dinks!
Decisions, decisions...limitless choices in design, beads, colors, etc. Necklaces, bracelets, rings, earrings and more!

They all went home with a new accessory wardrobe!
Yup...they were dripping in jewels.

The afternoon class...
This is like a candy store...yummy, yummy!
The bowl in production...
and the end result...along with her ring, bicycle necklace, friendship bracelet, etc.
 It's girlie goodness
at its best!

Hot Color Houses

I started class off by asking..."If you could paint your house any way you wanted, how would you do it?"  They started with choosing pieces of wood that they sanded down and chose an arrangement.  The kids got busy drawing their simple house on paper and were told to give it lots of detail and color!

Sanding is an outside job and not very much fun...

but it's better than having splinters!

Planning the design and color scheme...

and applying it.

Choosing the colors of paint is the best part (after snack time, that is!)

We had a great time with this project and especially glad its sunny and hot out today to help speed up the drying time!

Queenie and the gang with so many adorable houses!

Close ups of their hard work...

and they are ready to go home and hang all the good stuff!
Next session is July 21...girls only!

FaBuLoUs FlOwErS and FuNnY fIsH Day!

We crafted canvas wall hangings today and the kids chose to do flowers or fish...but only if they promised to use lots of color!  For the flowers we talked about concentric circles or ovals and the fish was all about simple shapes joined to make an image.

Smudges and fingerprints are encouraged and we are slowly coming to terms with the fact that "perfect is boring" in art!  If the Mona Lisa was a perfect beauty, where would all the fuss be?!
We also talked about balance and placement of color...

Et voila!  Here are today's masterpieces!
