‘Been Painting Door Hangers!

I have had more fun working on this fundraising project for Trinity Jr. High.  They have had great success with their annual “Taste of Trinity” night featuring yummy food prepared by families sharing their favorite cultural dishes.  This year they thought they would try to raise a few more bucks by selling soft sculpture door hangers.  I love it when these crafty challenges come my way!  We had the art classes help with this project and their art teacher and I decided on 25 designs to make.  The kids produced 14 of them and I hope they enjoyed the project as much as I was eager to see how they would turn out!

The student’s door hangers are below and I took this picture after I touched them up, sewed and trimmed them…the kids would stuff them, add the wire hangers and ribbons in class…sorry that I don’t have any clear pictures of the final products on these!  Aren’t they adorable!  IMG_1987IMG_1985IMG_1879IMG_1878IMG_1986They can be personalized later on.  On to the rest…complete and ready to auction off to the highest bidder!IMG_2265 IMG_2269 IMG_2270 IMG_2272 IMG_2274 IMG_2276 IMG_2277

I made the following for door prizes for a fun run/walk that I will share more with you soon.

Boys Keep Me Busy: Scene Two!

Here’s the rest of the story…our youngest is just as busy as his brother.  Michael ran cross country for his school this year and loved it.  We all enjoyed it and traveled with the team to all of the tournaments in Northwest Arkansas.  IMG_1817He is a beautiful runner and we look forward to watching him grow stronger in his sport as he matures.

Above are pictures from the regional tournament with 300 runners in the field.  Over the course of the year, he improved his time by more than 3 minutes on the 5k.

I don’t know how I let the football season get away without taking any pictures of him on the gridiron…I guess it’s because he played so well and I was watching him so intently and didn’t want take my eyes off of him.  He really wants to  focus on football in the future and we can’t wait to watch him grow in this sport!1237791_10151926726978939_473663881_n 1378795_10200752918888274_128583136_n After game burgers at an out of town game.1381923_10200670217580793_1346508632_nPosing with a lot of his friends after a home game victory!

Boys Keep Me Busy…

I haven’t posted in a good while and part of that is because I have been busy with projects, but mostly busy with my sons’ many activities.  Our senior just finished his golf season and actually allowed us to attend a few of his golf matches this season.  He did very well this year and we are very proud.  I forbid me from taking pictures, but I managed to get these taken from a far. He is a busy young man and hard working.  In addition to his golf schedule, working part time, applying for college, keeping up his grades in his honor classes,  he also sings in the choir and loves it.   He is front and center below as the choir prepares to sing the National Anthem at a football game.IMG_1866

He auditioned for and made the regional Men’s Choir…I love to see him in his performance tuxedo!IMG_2253

The choir prepares for hours on end for their concert (out of town) and it’s a good thing he has lots of good friends in this group.  They have a great time. Below he enjoys a McDonald’s meal as a pit stop on the way home.IMG_2258

Now we are waiting on college acceptance letters and scholarship applications to keep him busy in his “down time” and I cherish every minute he is still living under our roof.  Such a fine young man!

Ready for a Teen Halloween Party

I had so much fun decorating my friend’s house for a casual teenaged Halloween night party for my friend Julie.  She wanted more of her autumn decoration out and less Halloween this year.  Here’s what we came up with…IMG_2207The entry looks charming with lots of mums and bales of hay…and Jake the pup keeping his eye on me!IMG_2209The foyer with a sparkly purple theme…  IMG_2217

a warm, cozy den with lots of pumpkins, a huge antiqued lantern with mini pumpkins,IMG_2218 and lots of snacks (and bowls of candy!

More bowls of candy on the dining room buffet candy bar. IMG_2225Creepy spiders at the mini bar…  IMG_2230and another beautiful antiqued lantern to keep the fear at bay when the kids watch scary movies later that night.   IMG_2233We can’t forget the garage where a ping pong table is ready for action.

IMG_2234We made chocolate covered strawberry ghosts!

John and Michael got to take the candy bar out for a test drive…

Church Capital Campaign Kick Off Celebration

I was asked by my church pastor to head the hospitality committee for the major capital campaign  we have undertaken this year.  In addition to other smaller functions and duties, the Kick Off Celebration was the major event I had to plan.  It all came together with the help of wonderful men and women, young and old, who all care deeply for good ‘ol Immaculate Conception Church.IMG_2036 Here are the wonderful kids that helped set up a sparse gymnasium into a fun party!  I made a cor-plast silhouette of church and the kids taped twinkle lights to dress up the front of the gym (I chose the church silhouette as the decoration theme as it is a local icon of our city as it sits prominently at the foot of Garrison and Rogers Avenue in down town Fort Smith.)  They followed directions well and pulled the room together in 2 hours.

IMG_2038 The kids and moms arrived at 9:00am on a Sunday morning to set up, decorate, bake and cook…here are the “church ladies!”  What would churches around the world do without the help of church ladies?!!  They are priceless!IMG_2039

Here’s the gym before the crowds…
