Ribbon Wreath Tutorial

Happy, cheery and fresh!  A ribbon wreath puts a smile on your guest’s faces!

I used an 18” straw wreath and left the plastic wrapping on. Then I added a wire hook and covered the wreath by looping a 3” wide floral ribbon around it.  I hot glued it in place every third go-round. untitled

I chose about 12 different styles of polka dot ribbon In three different widths…2”, 1” and smaller.  I would suggest that 2/3rds of the ribbon you get for your wreath be 2” wide and the rest in 1”.  It took about 15 rolls and I got it at Hobby Lobby on sale.  Cut 4 1/2” lengths of the ribbon as above.  Cut it all first, then glue it together.

I prefer hot gluing the ribbons rather than using a floral pin.  The hot glue is permanent, floral pins come out!  I dab a bead of glue on the very end of one side of the ribbon, then carefully wrap the opposite end up over the glued end and overlap by 1/4”.  Press together carefully…hot glue, you know!

I lay out all of my ribbon loops in a color pattern that I like and keep like items together.  I begin gluing the bottom of the wreath with a border of ribbon in the order above so that it will cover the side. Then start gluing down the largest ribbons with most color in various spots on the wreath…in the middle, inner wreath an then all over to fill in.IMG_1436IMG_1438IMG_1439IMG_1442

Yes, it does take a lot of time, but worth it!  Look how darling!  This will be used for Easter and can also be used for birthdays.

You can attach whatever you want in the middle of the wreath or hang it from the the wreath hanger nail.

  2. This looped ribbon wreath is gorgeous! I love all the different colors you used. I hope it's okay, I just couldn't help but feature it on my Easter wreath and topiary round-up. You can see it here:
